Coronation Street favourite Jennie McAlpine is swapping the Weatherfield cobbles for the Australian jungle on I’m A Celebrity.

The popular actress , best known as Fiz Brown in the ITV1 soap, is heading for the jungle next week according to reports.

Jennie, who runs Manchester restaurant and tea shop Annie’s, is reportedly set to take on the dreaded Bush Tucker trials.

According to our sister paper The Mirror a TV source said: “Jennie was given permission to go on I’m A Celebrity by Coronation Street boss Kate Oates. She has a quiet period on the soap now and then the idea is for her to come back with a big storyline in 2018.”

Jennie has played factory worker Fiz since 2001 and is said to have been on I’m A Celebrity bosses’ wish list for some time.

Born and bred in Bury she started out as a stand-up comic before finding fame on Corrie as feisty Fiz.

The mother of one gave birth to her son Albert in November 2014 and she married her long-term partner Chris Farr in January this year.

Jennie co-owns Annie’s with her husband, who is a chef.

The pair married at Trafford Town Hall, with only Albert and two witnesses from the town hall present at the ceremony. Jennie announced their happy news on Twitter by sharing a photo of their hands displaying their wedding rings.

Speaking on the ITV1 chat show Loose Women about her special day she said: “Secret isn’t the word. Surprise is more the word.”

The happy couple married after more than a decade together and after the ceremony they honeymooned at a farm in Wales with Albert.

Alongside the photo of the rings she wrote: “So, we went to Trafford Town Hall earlier this week and had a bit of a special day.”

This summer she hosted the launch for Manchester Council’s new Breast Feeding Friendly scheme at Annie’s, encouraging businesses to display a symbol in their windows so that mothers know they can breastfeed in comfort when out and about in the city.

Jennie, whose character Fiz is engaged to mechanic Tyrone, has been at the centre of many hard-hitting storylines in Corrie including her ill-fated marriage to killer John Stape.

As a teen Fiz was fostered by Roy and Hayley Cropper. And after settling down in Weatherfield she went on to marry and have a daughter, Hope, with teacher John Stape, who had a fling with his pupil Rosie Webster and was involved in the deaths of three people.

After finding love with Tyrone they went on the run from his abusive ex Kirsty Soames and the couple had a shock last year when they accidentally uncovered the dead body of Callum Logan after crasheing a pick-up truck into the Platt household.

The MEN spoke to Jennie this week at Annie’s where she was hosting a tea party for local school children. But she was tight-lipped when asked about the jungle, saying “I couldn’t possibly comment.”
