Grand Tea Party to Defray Costs of Eye Care for Saint Lucian Children

THE Piton Lions are gearing up for their 10th annual family activity aimed at raising funds to support the Kids Insight Project.

The next Kids Insight visit is scheduled for January 2020 and in order to ensure that the event are a success the Piton Lions of the Lions Club of Saint Lucia is once again rallying the public to support their ‘Grand Tea Party – Fun for Sight’. The event normally has broad-based appeal as it is hosted at the award winning and historic Fond Doux Plantation Resort in Soufriere.

Organizers are therefore looking forward to a favourable response from the public in support of this worthy cause and promise a very entertaining and fun-filled afternoon on Sunday, December 1, 2019.

The admission fee for the event which has a packed agenda and includes a sumptuous lunch is $85.00 for adults and $43 for children under 15. Additionally, an impressive lineup of local artistes including TC Brown, Jim ‘Coco’ Snow, Ashanti, Nintus, Alley Cat, Cowboy Eddie, Avont Service, and the visually impaired Major Tone Band among many other exciting acts, are all carded for the day.

The funds raised from the December 1st tea party will help defray costs associated with a visit to the island by a committed team of Ophthalmic Specialists from West Virginia, USA. They have volunteered their time and expertise over the years to help children in Saint Lucia who suffer from a range of pediatric eye conditions. Children benefit from corrective eye surgeries and other medical, educational and rehabilitative support.

Executive Director of the SLBWA Anthony Avril noted, “Those specialised eye procedures and treatments are very, very costly and by the time families factored in travel, accommodation and other expenses to go abroad to seek medical attention for their children, it would be prohibitive for most. So that is why we have implemented this programme in partnership with the local Lions Clubs and the Eye Institute of the University of West Virginia where the experts come to us and gift us their services at no charge. We have the glowing reviews from parents and we know this project helps tremendously in actually transforming lives by saving the eyesight of the children; and so we ask that the public patronize the Piton Lions Tea Party in their effort to support the Kids Insight programme.”

Tickets are available at St Anthony’s Medical Center in Soufriere, SLBWA’s Office in Castries, and from Lions Club members.

Parents of children who have been previous beneficiaries of the Kids Insight Programme and would wish to arrange follow-up visits with the team, are asked to contact the SLBWA at 452-4691/ 451-9063 for more information.
