Those who grew up enjoying magical fables and fictional bedtime stories will be happy to know that these classic tales have been translated into a stunning culinary creation in the city.

Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (900 West Georgia Street) will be launching its Enchanted Forest afternoon tea menu ($59 per person, plus taxes and gratuity) this Friday (September 7), which runs through November 18, 2018.

Don’t expect to eat from an average three-tiered stand that are usually used in traditional afternoon tea sets. Notch8 Restaurant and Bar takes it up a notch (pun intended), and serves its treats on a multi-tiered stand made from tree trunks.

The food presentation looks outstanding—think fairy lights, moss table runners, and edible “soil”. Guests will be enjoying their mystical fare in a room that is equally as charming, filled with woodland décor and vintage story books.

As for the menu, you’ll start off with an orange zest crème brûlée, paired with your choice of Fairmont’s Lot 35 Tea that includes creamy earl grey (black tea with cornflower petals) and Kyushu Japan sencha (vegetative green tea with a buttery texture). Fresh scones will also arrive on the table—flavours include wild berry and lavender honey butter, which taste best with clotted cream and marmalade.

Savoury creations range from Fairy Ring Tartlet (wild mushrooms, chestnut, and truffles) to Mossy Log (smoked salmon, trout caviar, cream cheese, and chive powder) to Enchanted Flower (quince chutney, smoked pork rillettes, and pickled pearl onion).

Finish off your meal with some sweets such as Toadstool (chocolate glazed meringue), Profiterole Pinecone (white chocolate raspberry pastry cream and almonds), and Bird’s Nest Shortbread (rosewater, pistachio crust, and berry jam).

A children’s tea set ($29.50 plus taxes and gratuity, for guests aged 12 and under) is also available, which showcase kid-friendly tea sandwiches, scones, and other treats. Gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options are offered with advance notice. Reservations are strongly encouraged and can be made online. 

Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s changes its afternoon tea menus every couple of months. Past themes include Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Old World Carnival, Classic Board Games, Canada 150, and a Great British Tea Party.
